Celebrating 20 Years of the Catalyst-Moodle Partnership at the MoodleMoot Global 2024!

6 November 2024 by Catalyst

The Catalyst team were proud sponsors of the MoodleMoot Global 2024 which was held in beautiful Merida, Mexico.

The event kicked off with the Annual Moodle Partners Day and 2024 Moodle Partner Awards. To be recognised APAC Partner of the Year 2024 and to celebrate our 20th Anniversary as a Moodle Partner were definitely the highlights and proud moments for our team.

We are great supporters of the Global Moot events because they bring together technical and pedagogical experts from the wider Moodle community – Moodle HQ, the Moodle Partner Network and global representatives of Moodle users. From the breadth of topics covered at each global Moot, you can tell how limitless the possibilities are for Moodle product and Moodle users. We hope this is as inspiring for everyone else as it is for our team.

This year’s event was a chance for the new Moodle CEO, Scott Anderberg to present his vision for Moodle as an open source learning platform that truly sets no limits.

Moodle maintains their commitment to “making quality online education accessible for all”. This was reinforced in this year’s updates from the Moodle HQ team, as well as by the specific examples from the global community of Moodle users, who showcased how they use Moodle to achieve their teaching and learning goals.

The strong representation of Moodle enthusiasts from Latin America, sharing their successful educational stories, points to the importance of open source Enterprise LMS availability in the developing world.

The Moodle product team took great detail to outline the progress on the Product functionality made over the last year, based on input from the community and analysis of market needs.

No educational conference would be complete without considerable discussions about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it can, will and is being used to deliver education.

Moodle founder Martin Dougiamas focused his keynote on highlighting the amazing progress that is being made and exploring what education may look like in a decade.

“Martin presented a scenario where education in 2034 will be far more immersive and personalised. Students might engage with content in augmented and virtual realities, allowing for hands-on learning experiences from anywhere in the world. There’s a strong emphasis on accessibility, inclusivity, and breaking down geographical, financial, or physical barriers. He also highlighted the importance of open-source collaboration in making education more democratic and available to all.” – Source

We learned not only about the ‘what’ (the vision) of AI in education setting but also the ‘how’, as Martin presented us with some tactical caveats – how we all use the amazing power offered by Large Language Models (LLM) for everything from content creation, course design to student assessment.

We look forward to continuing these conversations in a couple of weeks at MoodleMoot Australia 2024 in Melbourne where Martin, the Moodle HQ team, and technical and pedagogical experts from APAC and beyond, will come together for a two day event packed with stories and insights.
